For more than 30 years our organization has met the needs of local ALICE families through our Back-to-School initiative. This year, our program helped families in three different communities across our newly expanded footprint.
In Danbury we hosted a donation drive to serve more than 250 students with donations from community members and organizations including Danbury Mission Technologies, DRS Naval Power Systems, Inc., Emperor Tutoring, Farmers Insurance: Dennis Perkins Agency, MannKind Corp., the Moms of New Fairfield & Surrounding Towns group, Odyssey Logistics, PHYSICIANONE Urgent Care- Ridgefield, Reynolds & Rowella, Savings Bank of Danbury, Sky Blue Designs, Starbucks (all Danbury locations), Ventura Law, and Waterworks. Volunteers gathered at Danbury Fair Mall to organize and assemble backpacks filled with supplies. Students from a local elementary school were invited to an event where they picked out backpacks of their choice and received gift cards to Primark. At our office in Southern Litchfield County, we were able to reach more than 250 New Milford students with backpacks, supplies, and gift cards. Volunteers from Vision Engineering assisted with the assembly and distribution of the supplies where students were invited to receive their new gear in a drive-thru distribution.
Bridgeport students gathered at the City’s backpack giveaway where our team handed out books for the upcoming school year. More than 1,500 books went home with hundreds of students ranging in grade levels, languages, and special interests. Bridgeport Prospers community messengers were also in attendance with helpful resources for parents.
