DANBURY (October 31, 2023) – United Way of Coastal and Western Connecticut and Mayor Dean Esposito of the City of Danbury announced a grant cycle in June of 2023 for social service agencies to receive funding through the Danbury Social Service Grant program. This year, $204,000 will be distributed among 16 local nonprofits. Agencies whose work is focused on the following categories were eligible and invited to apply: 1) Housing/Shelter; 2) Mental Health; and 3) Food Security.
Since 2009, UWCWC has administered the funding review process on behalf of the City of Danbury. Danbury residents are recruited and trained as volunteers to serve on a grant review committee. In this capacity, the committee reviews grant applications, listens to agency presentations, and makes funding recommendations to the City. Volunteer reviewers must be Danbury residents and attest to having no conflicts of interest with the agencies being reviewed.
“The City of Danbury is proud to support our nonprofit community with over $200,000 in grants this year”, said Mayor Dean Esposito. “These organizations provide our residents with critical services and aid our most vulnerable populations. I am grateful for the incredible work they do for the greater Danbury community.”
“The Danbury Social Service Grant Program is an opportunity to collaborate with the City of Danbury in administering key funds to support our community’s nonprofits,” said Isabel Almeida, CEO and President of United Way of Coastal and Western Connecticut. “The funds provided by the City each year are critical to improving health, enhancing education and child care, and increasing the financial stability of families throughout Danbury. The agencies receiving this funding are providing necessary support in each of those areas.”
