United Way of Western Connecticut announced the award of $1,050,000 through Congressionally Directed Spending to launch a food as medicine ‘Greater Danbury Food Farmacy’ initiative in partnership with Nuvance Health and Connecticut Institute for Communities (CIFC). Funding comes because of support from United States Senator Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal. The Food Farmacy aims to improve health outcomes and food security amongst Nuvance Health and CIFC clients experiencing diet-related comorbidities who also screen positive for food insecurity.   

United Way of Western Connecticut is partnering with Red Rooster Pub in Newtown for the month of May!

Red Rooster will be donating $1 to our organization for every order of pancakes, waffles, and french toast sold. Community members are invited to participate in this fundraiser until the end of the month.

Make Connecticut a Family-Friendly State: Create a Permanent Child Tax Credit  

Five years ago, the Community Messengers program was introduced in Danbury to prepare “trained advocates who share important information within their neighborhoods.” Last night our Cora’s Kids team gathered to celebrate the completion of its seventh cohort, adding twenty-nine graduates to the growing network.
